I hope that our response to the Chechen Crisis - which, although muted so far, is none the less the right one - will be maintained undiluted and clearly stated, along with our absolute condemnation of the methods that Russia has used.

The Chechen Crisis cannot but have a effect on the negotiations about Russia's new relationship with the European Union, NATO, the Council of Europe, the International Monetary Fund and other international organisations.
