Apprehensions are entertained lest Convocation should proceed continually in the same direction as it has lately taken, constantly condemning books as they are brought before them; but I ask your Lordships whether since the Reformation there has been any Crisis in the English Church of so grave a character as that through which it is now passing; and whether there is ever likely to occur in the next 200 or 300 years so serious a case or one calling so urgently upon Convocation, the Synod of the Church, to pronounce its opinion.
