I am not perfectly sure, but I believe I am right when I say that the real temptation for men to show what is called cowardice is not in the real Crisis of Battle, is not when men are going over the top, but it is rather when they are standing alone in the middle of the night, on sentry, perhaps, alone in the darkness, that this thing comes over them.

The first main Crisis of the Battle was reached between 24th and 26th November.
