Mr. BECK: I am certainly responsible, but this agreement was entered into at the time of the Crisis in March.

The Crisis of March, 1943, was turned into a resounding victory in little more than two months, when during the period April-May, 1943, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force sank no fewer than 56 U-boats.

I am glad to say that this country played a significant part in stabilising the gold and monetary situation generally in the Crisis in March 1968 and thereafter.
