This debate is important because of the Crisis of Public Confidence That has been brought about by the lack of direction, lack of candour and general incompetence in the Government's handling of Iraq.

The Government seem to have no understanding of the damage that is done and the Crisis in Public Confidence That is engendered when people serve very short prison sentences, particularly when the victims have heard in court that the sentence would be handed down in full.
