Thus, on the 31st of March last, he had asked a Question as to the statement of Mr. A. Forbes, relating to a direct correspondence between the Queen and Colonels Mansfield and Wellesley during the Russo-Turkish War, and between Her Majesty and the Viceroy of India at an eventful Crisis of the Afghan Difficulty, to which he had received the following reply from the Chancellor of the Exchequer:— "I can give no information to the hon. Gentleman or the House on this subject, further than to say there is no kind of official communication between Her Majesty the Queen and the Viceroy of India.
