The hon. Gentleman asked the Secretary of State to assure him that the method here proposed was unavoidable because, he said, representing, I think, the spirit of the Services for whom he spoke, that if they 435 were convinced that this method was unavoidable in order to meet a financial Crisis of the Greatest Gravity They would be prepared to accept it in that spirit.
