The Luton and District Rape Crisis centre, which is one of the oldest in the country, told me that, in the year to March 1998, it had 307 calls from victims of rape or attempted rape.

However, it is obvious from women who have been counselled by the Luton and District Rape Crisis centre that they are prevented from seeking justice by the experience that they will have to face in court.
