Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that today's Glasgow Herald tells us that means of relieving the Teaching Crisis by increasing wages were discussed?

As hon. Members know only too well, this country faces a Crisis in the Teaching of mathematics.

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware, despite these figures, that many people in the teaching profession believe, and responsible opinion agrees, that there is a Crisis in the Teaching of science and mathematics and that some of our schools are short of teachers?

Has the Secretary of State no idea of the scale of the Teaching Crisis over which he presides?

Is not the statement a body blow to the prospects of successfully addressing the Teaching Crisis?

The evidence of a more Major Teaching Crisis than at any time since the early 1970s when the Prime Minister was Secretary of State for Education is overwhelming, and isundeniable to all except those who are responsible for the crisis - Ministers.

A Teaching Crisis looms, even though officially there is not one at the moment.

However, the money is being spent not on teachers but agency fees, because the only way that heads can reasonably deal with the Teaching Crisis is to approach teaching agencies.

Again, it is nice to see the Government at long last admitting that there is a Crisis in Teaching.

The Opposition appear to be arguing that there is some sort of Crisis in Teaching, specifically recruitment to teaching, but the number of graduates with top degrees is up.

With only 61% of teacher training places being filled in 2014, with 38% of teachers leaving the profession after one year, with thousands of new teachers never reaching a classroom and with thousands more leaving the profession because of stress and exhaustion, will the Secretary of State acknowledge the Crisis in Teaching and tell us what she will do about it?
