It was that in the month of December, 1852, as I understand the right hon. Gentleman, almost all or many of the leading persons who were at That Ministerial Crisis opponents of the Government, and who subsequently became Members of the succeeding Administration, made representations — I believe he said to the Earl of Derby and himself—to the effect that they ought on no occasion to resign in consequence of the adverse vote at which the House of Commons had then arrived.
