On the very point that recycling may be a good thing, I am sure that, in his studies for the debate, he has read the Greenpeace report "PVC Plastic: A Looming Waste Crisis", which was published on 2 April 1999.
There is a new awareness that our society faces a Waste Crisis which, quite rightly, has moved the issue of waste management from the margins to the centre of political debate.
Without action, we face a Waste Crisis.
There is now a general understanding of the Waste Crisis: ordinary citizens recognise that it is impossible to go on putting more and more waste into the ground and they seek a lead from the Government on recycling.
Students like these, the future engineers and designers of our products, should be helped to find practical solutions to our growing Waste Crisis.
