The effect of the Crisis in Europe Last Week, which sent Finance Ministers scurrying to Bonn and back, was that Britain, like every other country, had to show extra willing at this stage to tell the world that, although we had been in deficit for some years, we now intendedto take action as quickly as possible, although the process has not been quite fast enough, once-and-for-all action for 12 months, to prevent another run on our currency, as there might have been in if more panic started in the world, even though some of it was not of our own making.
