Given all of these causes for concern about the Crisis in His Department, would it not be right for the Secretary of State at least to move over and make way for somebody else to lead the Department and to go now?
I put those as being principally a financial Crisis in His Department, a lack of strategic framework - or at any rate, a confused one - for Britain's defence policy, and some decisions desperately needed on big procurement items.
Although he appears to have been panicked by the Crisis in His Department into announcing something with which he used to disagree, it is a very good idea.
