In that year, we faced a far Worse Economic Crisis than this Government have yet managed to induce, and, unlike the present crisis, it was not of our making, but was caused by other people.

In fact, experience seems to show that the more the Government do, the Worse the Economic Crisis becomes, so I think that, rather than doing any more to make things worse, it would be better for them to concentrate on measures of this kind.

Political and institutional development in any country is a slow, long-term project, and a steady - rather than sharp - decline in funding is needed to avoid triggering a Worse Economic Crisis than that already likely.
