One is filled with admiration for the patriotism of the Income Tax payer, butI beg my right hon. Friend, and any prospective Chancellors of the Exchequer who happen to he in the House, to remember that the very fact that they rely upon the Income Tax in Each Successive Crisis is the greatest reason for bringing it down when the crisis abates.

They result in the failure to use adequately the economic resources of the nation; in a prolongation of our economic weakness; in submission to the antediluvian financial thinking of the international banking community, and in the Carthaginian terms imposed upon this Government following Each Successive Crisis and particularly as a sequel to last year's forced devaluation.

Public ownership will permit us for the first time to apply a coherent strategy instead of waiting for Each Successive Crisis to be met with panic measures as they arise.
