As chairman of the all-party group on Sudan, I am grateful for the opportunity to introduce a short debate on what Mukesh Kapila, the United Nations humanitarian co-ordinator for Sudan, has described as the world's Greatest Humanitarian Crisis.

The Prime Minister has responded in part to what is now the Greatest Humanitarian Crisis since the second world war.

As the noble Baroness, Lady Prashar, said, we are confronting the Greatest Humanitarian Crisis to have faced the European Union since its foundation.

Today we are in the middle of the Greatest Humanitarian Crisis since World War II.
