The Government should note a report that has been released today, The Other Care Crisis: Making social care funding work for disabled adults in England, published jointly by Leonard Cheshire Disability, Mencap, Scope, the National Autistic Society and Sense.
The Minister has concentrated on the impact on the frail elderly, but does he recognise the Other Care Crisis highlighted recently in a report published by four leading disability charities?
The report, The Other Care Crisis, produced by Mencap, the National Autistic Society, Scope, Leonard Cheshire Disability and Sense, and supported by economic modelling by Deloitte, highlighted that alongside the moral imperative for action, investing in support for people with moderate needs will ultimately lead to savings for the taxpayer.
Can my noble friend confirm that the Government's review of the adult autism strategy will pay close attention to the kind of day support services, such as the NAS's Horizons service, which the recent Deloitte report, Ending the Other Care Crisis, has demonstrated not only leads to increased quality of life and reduced dependency but has clear economic benefits?
We know the Ending the Other Care Crisis report produced by Scope with four other charities estimates that 105,000 working-aged disabled adults will in fact continue to rely on universal services.
